Croatian Army Day marked at ceremony in Karlovac
The Croatian Army Day and Karlovac County Defenders’ Day were formally marked at a ceremony in Karlovac on 30 May 2019.
The marking began with the wreath laying at the Central Cross in front of the Croatian Army Command, followed by a mass in the Church of Presveto Srce Isusovo recited by Military Chaplain Ivan Blaževac.
The formal ceremony in the Dom HV “Zrinski” in Karlovac was attended by the Commander of the Croatian Army Major General Siniša Jurković, by Deputy Commander Brigadier General Boris Šerić, by the Chief Defence Insepctor Major General Slaven Zdilar, by the Commander of the Croatian Navy Commodore Ivo Raffanelli,by the Commander of the Croatian Air Force Brigadier General Mato Mikić, by the Commander of the Support Command Major General Mladen Fuzul,by the Commander of the Special Forces Command Brigadier General Perica Turalija, by the State Secretary of the Ministry of MAritime Affairs, TRansportation and Infrastructure Nikolina Brnjac, by the Assistant Minister of Homeland War Veterans Vladimir Bergman, by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Tugomir Majdak, by the Prefect of the Karlovac County Damir Jelić and by the Mayor of Karlovac Damir Mandić.
“Our excellent results clearly display that we are successfully fulfilling our main mission of protecting the interests of the Republic of Croatia“, said Major General Jurković congratulating on the Croatian Army Day.
Maj Gen Jurković stressed that it took motivated and prepared soldiers to defend the homeland’s interests: “We are creating the conditions to procure new systems and assets and to develop new capabilities, in order to improve the living and working conditions for our soldiers, who are the the main value“.
The Prefect of the Karlovac County underlined the importance of keeping the memory of the fallen members alive.
The Mayor of Karlovac Damir Mandić recalled the fallen defenders and praised the excellent co-operation between Karlovac and the Croatian Armed Forces: “Ske vojske, da vam Karlovac zaista bude dom, vama i vašim obiteljima”.
The ceremony featured a presentation of promotions, awards and commendations to the distinguished members of the Croatian Army.
The ceremony featured a film on the making and the operation of the Croatian Army, and performances by the students of the Music School in Karlovac and the Bosutski bećari tamburirza band.
Throughout the day weapons and equipment of the Croatian Army were at a static display in Vunsko polje in Karlovac, as well as demo exercises and sport competitions and performances by the Croatian Defenders Choir “Petar Svačić”, by the Ministry of the Interior’s Vocal Ensemble “Sveti Mihovil” and by the Croatian Navy’s Vocal Ensemble “Sv. Juraj“ and by the Jazz Orchestra.
