Croatian Defence Academy hosts Countering Hybrid Threats Seminar

The objective of the Seminar was to increase the awareness of hybrid threats in Croatia’s environment and incite development of methods countering hybrid warfare

The Counter Hybrid Threat (CHT) Seminar, administered by NATO Special Operations Headquarters (NSHQ) in the Croatian Defence Academy ”Dr. Franjo Tuđman“ from 3 – 5 September 2019 that was attended by members of the Croatian Armed Forces and officials of the Ministry of Defence, of the Ministry of the Interior and of other government institutions, and by foreign attendees and lecturers.

The closing day featured presentations of the conclusions of the three syndicates, opening the discussion on identified challenges of countering hybrid threats targeting the Republic of Croatia as well.
The panelists at the Seminar were the Head of the Office of National Security Council Maja Čavlović, the Defence and National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic Zrinko Petener, Special National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Robert Kopal, the Assistant Minister of Justice Lana Letilović te Deputy Commander of NATO Special Operations Command Colonel Robin Stephenson.

The Seminar presented a comprehensive approach to identification of hybrid threats and modalities to emhance the interdepartmental co-operation with the identification and countering the threats. The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov said at the closing of the Seminar. ”I am certain that the Seminar upgraded our common awareness helped predict possible threats as well as protection and response methods“, said General Šundov, who extended appreciation to the attendees for their productive discussion and suggestion and to the experts for the expertise and proposals shared.

The closing session of the Seminar was attended by Colonel Stephenson, by Major General Mate Pađen – the Commander of the Croatian Defence Academy “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” and by the Commander of the Special Forces Command Brigadier General Perica Turalija.
