Gen. Šundov attends ChoD Conference on counter-terrorism in Washington
The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov attendedd the CHOD Conference held in Washington, D.C. from 16 – 18 October 2016, hosted by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, General Joseph Dunford. The conference has been convened to discuss the counter-terrorism strategy.
The Conference aimed at looking for ways to enhance their understanding the nature of violent extremism threat and to fit into a global network against the transregional extremism.
The Conference featured plenary discussions on the extremism occuring in Europe, America, Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. It. Also included the presentations and discussions on SAHEL, the Middle East; a panel on deterrence of extremism and the issues on foreign combatants in ISIL and the funding sources of the transregional extremist organisations. The Strategy previews the community-based approach, rule of law, communication.
The host country – the United States – in May 2016 passed the National Strategy on Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism, defining the goals, areas of action and principles of countering the extremism. The Strategy previews the community-based approach, rule of law and communication, within a nation-wide counterterrorism strategy and promotion of the American ideals.
