Minister Krstičević attends Conference on EU in Dubrovnik

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević attended the conference on “the European Union between necessity and possibility“ held in  Dubrovnik on 23 June 2017.

The Conference was also attended by NATO Assistant Secretary General for  Emerging Security Challenges Sorin Ducaru, the Vice President of the European Parliament, Ioan Mircea Paşcu, the Deputy Executive Director of the European Defence Agency Rinis Goos, the Defence Minister of  Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendeš, the Defence Minister of Montenegro Predrag Bošković, the President of the Delegation of the EU Parliament  for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo Tonino Picula and other senior participants.
The Conference discussed the security challenges, the common European security and defence policy following the adoption of the Global Strategy for the EU’s foreign and security policy, possible joint solutions for security upgrade relevant for the citizens of the European Union and the security situation in southeast Europe and other challenges faced by the European countries.

The Vice-President of the European Parliament Ioan Mirceau Paşcu stressed the value of the security and defence of the European Union today and stated that the Conference offered a good opportunity to exchange the views and engineer possible solutions to upgrade the security situation. The Vice-President also underlined the need of investment into the EU security and defence capacities.

Minister Krstičević took part in the panel dedicated to security challenges in southeast Europe, and stressed the need to raise awareness of the complexity, interrelatedness and unpredictability of the security threats, risks and challenges and of their constant changing, which calls for a continuous development of the national security policy and of the capabilities for the response.
“The global security situation is becoming increasingly complicated. We need the capability to respond to new security threats and risks. The security system we are building and upgrading should guarantee all our citizens the ability of the Republic of Croatia to address strongly and adequately to any threat or risk at any moment and ensure development and prosperity for them“, said the Minister.
