Minister Krstičević meets with UK Chief of Defence Staff

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov on 23 August 2017 met with the Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, who is on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

Minister Krstičević and Air Chief Marshal Peach affirmed the excellent bilateral relations and praised the expanding defence co-operation, underlining the meeting itself was a contribution in that regard, in compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year, during the official visit of Minister Krstičević to the United Kingdom.
Minister Krstičević stated that the United Kingdom was one of Croatia’s main European allies and partners in security and defence. The Minister and Sir Peach exchanged the views on the current security and political situation at the global level and in southeast Europe and on the progress of the anti-terrorism coalition and concluded that NATO was the main security framework and the commitment to the Article V the foundation of collective strength and security of the Allies. The two countries will deploy their forces within NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in the eastern part.   
The two sides outlined the options to further enrich the traditionally good co-operation between the Croatian Navy and the Royal (UK) Navy and announced a possibility of a joint military exercise with the purpose of enhancing the interoperability and maritime security. They also praised the continued joint military exercise “Sava Star”, conducted in Croatia for the 5th consecutive year.
