President and Defence Minister talked with CAF members in missions

Croatian President and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Ivo Josipovic and Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic talked today, on Saturday, 1 January 2011, with members of the Croatian Armed Forces in international peacekeeping operations and missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Syria. The President and Minister of Defence wished them all well in 2011, with the desire to continue their work in missions to the best, and to safely return to their families afterwards.

President Josipovic congratulated the members of the Armed Forces for all they did in international peacekeeping missions and operations, expressing his confidence that the CAF work would be noticed in 2011as well. The President also emphasized the importance of participating in international missions for the position and reputation of the Republic of Croatia in the international community.

Minister Bozinovic said that the new 2011year would bring new opportunities for making good decisions in the defence system, and seized the opportunity to emphasize once again that the work of members of the Armed Forces in missions and operations traditionally received praise from the international community. The Minister also thanked all the soldiers, NCOs and officers for their hard work. Minister Bozinovic particularly mentioned the involvement in the ISAF mission with 319 members of the Armed Forces deployed, saying that this year would be crucial for the ISAF operation, the year in which the transition from the international forces on Afghan security forces would begin and the year that would ask for additional efforts in the process of reconciliation in that country.

A brief report on their duties to President Josipovic and Minister Bozinovic over the video link were given by commanders: from ISAF (Afghanistan) by Captain Marileo Stanicic, from UNDOF Mission (Syria, Golan Heights) by Major Denis Vukovic and from KFOR (Kosovo) by Major Sasa Crnec, wishing them, and all their colleagues in Croatia, and to all Croatian citizens all well in new 2011 on behalf of all members of the Armed Forces who have been currently deployed in international missions.

Talk over the video link was organized by the Command Operations Centre of the Croatian Armed Forces which work has been introduced to the President and Minister of Defence by its Commander, Brigadier General Vlado Sindler. The video conference also attended Chief of General Staff General Josip Lucic, and deputy chiefs of General Staff Lieutenant General Slavko Baric and Rear Admiral Zdenko Simicic.
