Minister Krstičević meets with Ukrainian Minister
The Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 16 January 2018 met with the Defence Minister of Ukraine, General Stepan Poltorak.
The two ministers exchanged views on the prospects for expanded bilateral defence co-operation, (military technical cooperation, defence industries and training and education) and discussed the global and regional security situation and the relation NATO-Ukraine.
Minister Krstičević stressed that the international community had to maintain focus on Ukraine and pledged support to its right to make its own foreign policy choices.
“The Republic of Croatia supports Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic agenda and territorial integrity and will assist with the reorganisation of its defence and security sector by sharing its experiences“, stated the Minister.
Appreciating the opportunity to visit Croatia at the moment of marking the 26th anniversary of its international recognition and the 20th anniversary of the peaceful recognition of the Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Wester Sirmium into the constitutional order and to meet wiht Minister Krstičević, the Ukraininan Defence Minister expressed readiness for future co-operation, to mutual benefit.
Minister Poltorak also said Croatia and Ukraine shared common experiences such as the challenges faced by the two countries in the past (Ukraine in 2014).
“Croatia’s experience with the restoration of the territorial integrity, the reorganisation and modernisation of the Croatian Armed Forces is of great relevance for Ukraine“, said the Minister, who also commended the meeting and shared views on all items, particularly the co-operation of defence industries, and invited his Croatian counterpart for an official visit to Ukraine.
Following the meeting the ministers visited the static display of the weapons and equipment, presenting the products by the Croatian industry ( “Galeb”, “HS Produkt”, “Šestan Busch”, “Kroko”, “Hemko”, “Čateks”, “Varteks”, “Madler”, “DOK-ING”, “KAP-KO” and “Odjeća”).
Minister Krstičević stated that the Croatian defence industry, which enjoyed international recognition, constituted one of the major guarantors of natonal security and readiness of the Croatian Armed Forces.
The Minister also addressed the Agreement on Co-operation between the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and “Galeb d.d” , the Croatian manufacturer of quality and high-demand clothing items supplied to the Croatian Armed Forces at home and in missions abroad ,for which the Minister stated a recommendation on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.
Director General of “Galeb d.d.” Stjepan Pezo said the Agreement offered an impoortant contribution to the Croatian economy, particularly the defence-related segment.
“The Agreement is an important recognition to the Croatian firm committed to development and elaboration of new funcitonal fabrics and manufacturing of knitwear that is competitive in the international market and it will enable us to increase the manufacturing capacities and offer new jobs“, said Director Pezo.
