President Josipovic and Minister Bozinovic visit Afghanistan

President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipovic, accompanied by Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic and Lieutenant General Drago Lovric arrived today, February 18, to an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

During the visit, President Josipovic and Defence Minister Bozinovic will meet with Croatian soldiers in the ISAF operation. During their stay it is expected to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, ISAF Commander General David Petraeus and NATO civilian representative in Afghanistan Mark Sedwill. In addition to issues related to security and political situation, and informing on the involvement of members of the Croatian contingent on taking over management of the military police school, which includes training of Afghan forces, President Josipovic will discuss with his counterparts economic issues and possibilities of additional involvement of Croatian companies in Afghanistan. It is expected that Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic will meet his Afghan counterpart Abdul Rahim Wardak.

This is the first visit of the Croatian President and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces, and the third visit of the Croatian Minister of Defence to members of the Croatian Armed Forces in Afghanistan, which has been participating in ISAF since February 2003.
