12th CAF Championship in cross

The championship was attended by 250 members from 14 CAF units, who have competed in five categories. CAF female competitors competed in running at 4 000 meters, and at 8 000 meters.
First place in the category of men’s team won the team of Honorary Battalion. Among the females gold medal was won by Sergeant of the Guard Armoured Mechanized Brigade Valentina Zupanic.

In the category of younger seniors first place went to cadet of the Military College Ante Jovic, among older seniors, the gold medal was won by Sergeant Danijel Katalenic from Military Intelligence Battalion (VoB), while the best veteran was Sergeant Robert Spanic from the Honorary Battalion.

Congratulations to all participants on the contest were sent by the representative of the Chief of General Staff Commander of Guards Armoured Mechanized Brigade (GOMBR) Brigadier General Mladen Mikolcevic who also participated in the competition. “The acquisition of motor skills and habits to the natural development of physical capacity improves and accelerates the training activities of CAF members. By CAF development we improve conditions for recreational activities at military facilities, and through cooperation with civil structures we opened the possibility of using sports facilities outside the barracks”, General Mikolcevic said. As an example to encourage the development of sport in the CAF, the General mentioned the recent signing of contracts with professional athletes who by its sports achievements promote the CAF. “Most of you here are not professional athletes, but the soldiers. This your success makes even bigger because you found time with everyday tasks and activities for preparation and training. We should continue to encourage and develop sporting activities at all levels of the CAF”, General Mikolcevic concluded.

This was the largest CAF Championship in cross until now, a host and organizer of the event was the Guard Armoured Mechanized Brigade with the support of the logistics of the “Gasinci” military training ground.
