7th CAF contingent sent to UNDOF mission

The first part of the 7th CAF contingent was sent to the UNDOF mission on the Golan Heights on Wednesday, June 1, from the Pleso barracks.

The took-off ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of General Staff Rear Admiral Zdenko Simicic, Commander of the CAF Command Operations Centre Brigadier General Vlado Sindler, Deputy Commander of the Army Brigadier General Zvonko Peternel and other members of the Croatian Armed Forces.
After report of the Commander of the 7th CAF contingent Major Mario Maslov, Admiral Simicic on behalf of the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovric greeted the soldiers and expressed satisfaction with the preparations that were carried out successfully. “We are seeking the maximum responsibility, work, discipline, and military and professional behaviour. Your task is, above all, in the function and on the pride of your country, your flag you carry, and in the preservation of world peace. Do your tasks honourable and with dignity”, said Rear Admiral Simicic.
Members of the 7th Contingent will be the first who, during their stay in the mission, will use the new Croatian assault rifle (VHS). Also, after the UNDOF mission, it is planned to introduce this assault rifle in ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
Second part of the 7th CAF contingent will be sent in UNDOF mission following days, and in total the contingent will have 93 CAF members.

UNDOF Mission was established by Security Council resolution 350 on 31 May 1974. The mandate of the UN peacekeepers on the Golan Heights is to maintain the ceasefire between Israel and Syria, supervising the cessation of hostilities between Israeli and Syrian forces, and control the area of ​​separation.

CAF participate in UNDOF mission since June 2008.
