This year’s most intense engagement of CAF Fire-fighting air force

CAF fire-fighting air force over the past nine days (from 19 to 27 August) recorded the most intensive engagement at the scene this season, where the air fleet which has been composed of a total of 14 aircraft of Canadair and Air Tractor types and Mi-8 helicopters, participated in extinguishing of 39 fires across six counties.

During extinguishing of 39 fires, CAF fire-fighting air force have made a total of more than 225 flight hours, spent nearly 144 thousand litres of kerosene, and released about 7460 tons of water and about 10 000 litres of foam concentrate at the fire scene.

CAF fire-fighting air force in that period were extinguishing fires in Istria, Lika-Senj, Zadar, Sibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva counties. It should be noted that the distinctive feature of fire fighting in this period was an outbreak of the fires almost simultaneously in different locations, so that the air force, with the coordination between the pilots, CAF Fire-fighting Task Force Command and with the Fire-fighting Operations Centre in Divulje often immediately have been shifted from one fire scene to another . Also due to the outstanding high temperatures, daily reconnaissance of land-coastal areas from Air Tractor planes were carried out, where they often spot emerging fires and immediately acted at the scene until the arrival, if necessary, of other air force.

So far, CAF fire-fighting air force was engaged on a total of 119 fire scenes, where throughout the past 2010 they were engaged in extinguishing of a total of 90 fires.
