15th jubilee “Meetings for Rudi” held in Gornja Stubica

In memory of the pilot and hero of the Homeland War, Rudolf Perešin, 15th “Meetings for Rudi” were held, on Sunday, May 6, in Gornja Stubica.  Meetings were held under the auspices of the Croatian President Ivo Josipović and Zagreb City Assembly, and one of the co-organizers was the Ministry of Defence.

In addition to a program that started by a Mass at the Parish Church of St. George and laying wreaths at the Memorial Park in front of Rudi memorial, the air show was also held this year with traditional participation of MiG-21, other CAF aircraft, helicopters and police ultra light  aircraft.

Representatives of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Slovenia and Hungary, with  PC-9 M SWIFT and Jas-39 Gripen also participated  in the air show.

Before the air show, envoy of the President, his Defence Advisor Zlatko Gareljić, Speaker of the Zagreb City Assemble Davor Bernardić, and Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Brigadier General Dražen Šćuri laid wreaths in the Memorial Park Rudlof Perešin, at his memorial.

Rudolf Perešin became a symbol of the Homeland War after he fled with his MiG-21 from the back then Yugoslav Army to Austria to join the Croatian Armed Forces. He was killed in “Flash” military-police action.
