18th CAF Championship in shooting

18th CAF championship in shooting was closed on Thursday, 17 May 2012, by lineup ceremony of all participants and by awarding trophies and medals to most successful teams and individuals.

The championship was officially closed by representative of Chief of General Staff, Support Command Commander Major General Mate Ostović, who congratulated all the competitors. “Without diminishing the value of other military sports, it is logical that the military shooting still has a special status. Shooting is the most traditional competition within the CAF, which also indicates the fact that this is the 18th competition”, General Ostović said. He also said that after the three-day event, which passed in a friendly and sporting atmosphere, the best and fittest won. “The achieved results are high, which is a sign of good fitness and excellent conditions for competition on the shooting range”, General Ostović said.

The championship started on May 14, with 14 participating teams, and 102 competitors.

The men competed in shooting from a PAP rifle (7.62 mm), and military pistols (9 mm) by the rules of CISM (International Military Sports Committee), and the ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation). The competition in the women’s competition took place in the military disciplines of shooting a gun (9 mm), also by the rules of both international sports organizations. Head of the competition was Colonel K. Vrančić.

In total the best were members of the Support Command who won the trophy for best championship team.
Closing ceremony was attended by representatives of the Croatian Olympic Committee, the Croatian Shooting Federation, Shooting Association of the City of Zagreb and representatives of the Zagreb Sports Association and the Croatian officers’ corps.
