Water lifesaving Exercise

A simulated water lifesaving exercise was held in the Vis aquatorium on 13 August 2014, engaging the crew of the «Faust Vrančić SB-73» Salvage Ship of the Croatian Coast Guard and six members of the Red Cross Croatia (the Water Life Saving Service).

The Exercise scenario featured joint response upon a notification of an accident at sea, with the dispatch of two rescue teams equipped with rubber boats to the spot and the Ship’s crew preparing to provide reception and care for the victims, who were taken aboard the vessel for medical treatment, in compliance with the rescue procedures and priorities. The scenario included ten victims, one of them in critical condition.

Prior to the exercise itself, the Croatian Coast Guard and the Croatian Red Cross’s Water Lifesaving Service conducted joint practice at the exercise location, familiarising the Red Cross staff with the operation procedures applied by the Coast Guard vessel crew and the vessel’s technical characteristics to enable tailoring of the lifesaving and evacuation procedures in simulated situations of Coast Guard regular operations.
The co-operation between the Croatian Coast Guard and the Croatian Red Cross is to be continued through enhancement of practice in maritime rescue operations.
