Croatian Navy member takes over duty in EU NAVFOR MED SOPHIA

Lieutenant Junior Grade Tomislav Bratić of the Croatian Navy’s Flotilla on 26 January 2019 over the duty in the Headquarters of the EU-led NAVFOR MED SOPHIA.

The Commander of the Croatian Navy Commodore Ivo Raffanelli on 23 January 2019 met with the  the Croatian Flotilla Commander Captain (N) Darko Malačić and Lieutenant Junior Grade Tomislav Bratić, to whom he extended support __the professional challenge. In addition to the words of support for the demanding professional challenge, Commodore Raffannelli extended support and  wishes LJG Bratić safe return to his homeland.

Pfr Tomislav Bratić exercised various duties in the Croatian Navy  (engine officer, head of the missile boat command centre and of the armoury respectively. In addition to numerous international exercises, LTJG  Bratić took part in the Ooeration “Sea Guardian“ in the Mediterranean as head of the Maritime Interdiction Team  His duty in EU NAVFOR MED SOPHIA charge of the MIO team leader. 

The EU-led peace support operations within the Common Foreign and Security Policy make a tangible contribution to enhancing of stability and security of Europe, across a wide range  of activities: disarmament operations,  humanitarian and rescue operations, military advisory and assistance tasks, conflict prevention and peace activities, the engagement of combat forces in crisis management, peace making and management of post-conflict situations.

The Operation “EU NAVFOR MED SOPHIA” was launched to prevent human trafficking and build the Libyan security forces’s capabilities of combating illegal activities at sea and of autonomous conduct of assigned tasks.

Members of the Croatian Navy have been engaged in  EU NAVFOR MED SOPHIA since September 2017.
