
Pripadnici 2. hrvatskog kontingenta koji borave u operaciji potpore miru Ujedinjenih naroda u Libanonu, uz redovite zadaće u okviru operacije UNIFIL, vrlo su angažirani i u CIMIC projektima pomoći lokalnoj zajednici. Tako trenutačno na srednjoj školi u mjestu Chahabiya u području njihove zone odgovornosti postavljaju metalne zaštite na prozore, koje sami izrađuju u radionici u okviru baze Shama u kojoj borave. Zapovjednik 2. HRVCON-a bojnik Siniša Šlibar obišao ih je tijekom izvođenja radova te istaknuo kako je to jedan od tri CIMIC projekta na kojem su angažirani pripadnici kontingenta i na kojem rade već četiri mjeseca, a radove bi trebali dovršiti do kraja svog boravka u operaciji.
Croatian engineers in UNIFIL improve school safety in Lebanon
The Croatian Contingent has installed the protective windows grills of the secondary school at Chahabiya, in the Croatian contingent’s area of responsibility zone, they place metal protection on the windows, which are made in a workshop within the Shama base where they are staying.
The Commander of the HRVCON Major Major Siniša Šlibar visited them during the works and said it was one of three CIMIC projects in which the Croatian Contingent has been engaged for the past four months and which are xpected to be finished by the termination of the deployment.
“The HRVCON members have been very well received by the local population and also by the UNIFIL in the Sector West, where their duty as engineers is to ensure continuous movement of the UNIFIL forces and and their security in the bases“, said Major Šlibar.
The School Principal Ali Ibrahim Darwish extended appreciation to the 2nd HRVCON for the works. “UNIFIL forces came here to provide us peace and security. the UNIFIL is sending a message of peace, and it is our task as teachers to teach our students these values. The works performed by the Croatian soldiers on our school will upgrade our students’ safety and I express gratitude for their professional and solidly of task is to teach these values as teachers of our students.” What Croatian soldiers work in our school will greatly contribute to the safety of our students. on done, everything was done very professionally and correctly. They did a great job”, stated the Principal.
The 2nd HRVCON to UNIFIL is composed of 52 members, who have been in th Operation since mid October 2018. They are based in the Shama base and operate in the area of responsibility of the Sector West assigned to the Combat Support Battalion within the “Garibaldi” Brigade and under the command of the Italian Armed Forces.
