International military exercise “Jackal Stone 09”
The international military exercise “Jackal Stone 09” will be held in organization of the Battalion for Special Operations of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces and Special Operations Command Europe – SOCEUR) in the Republic of Croatia, from 10 to 27 September 2009. 1500 participants from 10 countries will take part in the exercise as follows: Albania, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine and the USA. Most of the activities will be carried out on the military training area “Eugen Kvaternik”, Slunj and in the barracks “Josip Jović” at Udbina and in the local waters of the islands of Mali Lošinj, Žirje, Vis and Lastovo. The barracks “Zemunik Donji” near Zadar, the barracks “Drgomalj” in Delnice and the barracks “Knez Trpimir” at Divulje will be used for logistic purpose.
The main objective of this exercise is fostering the cooperation of the armed forces of the participating countries, for purpose of international fight against terrorism and strengthening regional security and stability. The goals are also training of the procedures in hostage situations, in-service training of the liaison officers and in general, raising the level of the capability for planning and execution of such activities. The participating countries regularly carry out practice with other countries and this exercise represents an opportunity for improving readiness and building the capacities which will enable a joint response to all security challenges.
Units of the Battalion for Special Operations of the CAF’s General Staff, Special police of the Ministry of the Interior and related units from other participating countries will take part in the exercise.
Director of the exercise «Jackal Stone 09» is Deputy Chief of the CAF General Staff for Operations, Rear-Admiral Zdenko Simičić, Commanding Officer of the exercise is Major General Frank J. Kisner (Commander of SOCEUR), and his deputy on Croatian side is Brigadier General Dražen Šćuri, Deputy Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defense.
