Chairmanship of the us Adriatic Charter in 2021

Introduction

For almost two decades since the inception, the U. S. – Adriatic Charter (A-5) has confirmed itself as an important security and defence initiative and instrument of strengthening of regional co-operation and support to the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of southeast European countries.

The member nations of the U .S. -Adriatic Charter are the United States, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and North Macedonia. Serbia, Slovenia and Kosovo are participating in the Initiative as observers.

The co-operation within the U .S.- Adriatic Charter runs in the formats of defence and foreign ministers, political directors, defence policy directors chiefs of defence respectively. Military cooperation runs through the activity of the Implementation Working Group and working groups of the functional areas, which provide the basis for practical cooperation of the armed forces.

The chairmanship of the Charter rotates on an annual basis.
